New series of books devoted to democracy research

In mid-December, the publishing house Palgrave Macmillan will publish the first book of a new series entitled "Challenges to Democracy in the 21st Century". The series was initiated by the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) "Democracy".

Every book of the series offers an overview of the latest research on established democracies and democratisation processes as well as on democracies at an international and transnational level.

Political participation and representation
The first book looks at the impact of political communication in campaigns typical of Switzerland's direct democracy. It offers a summary of results obtained by political and communication scientists of the NCCR in module "Changing processes and strategies of political participation and representation". The book is expected to generate interest beyond the scientific community. "It contains insights that could also interest people in politics and the media," explains Yvonne Rosteck of NCCR "Democracy".

More visible and connected
The series is more than a platform for publishing research results internationally. By being open to authors who are not involved in the NCCR, the series serves as a means of creating a network, says Rosteck. "This network is both international and multidisciplinary."
