In 2010, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awarded CHF 726 million in research grants. These funds were used to support around 3,100 research projects. All in all, 24% of the grants were awarded for research in the humanities and social sciences, 34% for projects in mathematics and in the natural and engineering sciences, and 42% for research in biology and medicine.
