Organisation

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) was established in 1952 as a foundation under private law. Its supreme body is the Foundation Council, which includes representatives from the scientific community, confederation, cantons and economic and cultural sectors.

The National Research Council of the SNSF comprises four divisions and three specialised committees. Its tasks are the evaluation of research projects and the awarding of grants.

The SNSF Research Commissions, based at Swiss institutions of higher education, endorse grants for young scientists and assist the SNSF in evaluating grant applications.

The Administrative Offices, located in Berne, are responsible for all administrative and financial matters as well as for preparing the agendas of the Foundation Council and the National Research Council.
