Its key tasks include services to support the National Research Council, in particular the commissioning and evaluation of expert opinions from national and international experts on research applications.
The Biology and Medicine Division’s funding activities incorporate the following subject areas and disciplines:
- Basic Biological Sciences
- General Biology
- Basic Medical Sciences
- Experimental Medicine
- Clinical Medicine
- Preventative Medicine (Epidemiology/early detection/prevention)
- Social Medicine
It primarily finances research projects, but also launches or participates in special programmes and enables researchers to participate in internationally co-ordinated research activities (see below). It also supports scientific conferences and publications.
