The SNSF's research database P3 is online

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) activated the research database P3 on its website (www.snf.ch) on 9 January. P3 replaces the existing project database and includes extended information on the content and, as a new feature, also on the output of projects funded by the SNSF. P3 is available in English, French and German and offers expanded and user-friendly search options.

The research database P3 contains data on all SNSF-approved research projects and on grants awarded by the SNSF under various funding schemes since 1975. As a special feature, P3 offers an extended search option across the three domains "Project", "Person" and "Publication". Filters can be used to further limit the search, e.g. according to funding scheme, discipline, university of higher education or period. The research database is updated on a daily basis. As soon as the SNSF transfers a grant for an approved project, the corresponding data are published in P3.

Lay summary and output data
Alongside basic data, P3 offers in-depth information on the subject matter of projects. Thus a summary of the project aimed at the general public can be found under "Lay summary". Furthermore, the research database now also contains data on project outputs in the following areas, if available: scientific publications and events, promotion of staff members and young scientists, knowledge transfer events, public communication, use-inspired outputs (patents, spin-offs), awards and follow-up projects.
In some cases, links to further information have been added to the scientific output data. By publishing the output data, the SNSF is not least responding to political demands to make the output of funded projects more visible for the public and the political authorities.

The individual project data will be used by the SNSF together with the scientific reports for monitoring ongoing projects as well as for the evaluation of follow-up projects. The SNSF also plans to perform analyses on the output data at a later stage. Initial consolidated results for the output data of projects funded by the SNSF are expected to be available in two to three years' time, by when a sufficient amount of data will have been collected.
