Innovations in 2013: mobility fellowships and grants for doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences

As of next year, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) will be offering a new funding scheme aimed at doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences: Doc.CH (HSS). In addition, the fellowships for research stays abroad will be offered in a new guise: Doc.Mobility and Early Postdoc.Mobility will replace the fellowships for prospective researchers, and Advanced Postdoc.Mobility will take the place of fellowships for advanced researchers. All these instruments will become effective on 1 January 2013, in accordance with the regulations recently approved by the National Research Council of the SNSF.

Doc.CH (HSS)
As an excellence scheme, Doc.CH (HSS) is aimed at promising researchers who wish to write a dissertation in the humanities and social sciences on a topic of their own choice. Beneficiaries of the scheme must be matriculated as doctoral students at a Swiss university and earn a salary there. The grants are awarded for a duration of two to four years.

Mobility fellowships
Continuing the tradition of the fellowships programme for prospective and advanced researchers, the new mobility fellowships programme offers young scientists the opportunity of making a stay abroad in order to acquire more in-depth knowledge and enhance their scientific profile. The ultimate goal of the programme is to support the scientific and academic career of young researchers in Switzerland.
