Mobility grants in projects

The main purpose of mobility grants is to fund young scientists and increase the appeal of a scientific career. In career funding, as of 2013 stays abroad by doctoral students will be funded via the new mobility fellowships "Doc.Mobility" (as one of the schemes replacing the SNSF fellowships for prospective researchers). Until now, there was no comparable offer for doctoral students employed in research projects funded by the SNSF.

Doctoral students from all disciplines may have a stay abroad of six to twelve months financed via a supplementary grant awarded to an ongoing SNSF research project. The principal requirement is their employment in the research project and their intention to do a doctorate there. In addition, the request must be supported by the project's principal investigator and the host institution. The applications for mobility grants are processed by the Administrative Offices of the SNSF within two months. The maximum grant per application is CHF 20,000. No geographical restrictions have been set for the stays abroad (except for international co-operation programmes).

All relevant information on this funding scheme and on the procedure for submitting applications can be found in the "Regulations on the funding of doctoral mobility in research projects supported by the SNSF" as well as in the "Guidelines for requesting a mobility grant".
