The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) provides direct funding on a discretionary basis for research infrastructure when it is indispensable for research projects. Before submitting an application, interested parties should contact the scientific secretariat of the appropriate SNSF division.
This general possibility for research infrastructures is supplemented by two specific funding programmes:
Under its R’Equip programme (Research Equipment), the SNSF provides funding in all scientific fields for the procurement and development of major items of research equipment. Funding for equipment for a an SNSF-funded project should be directly listed in the project application not applied for under R'Equip.
Under the FORCE programme (Fund for Research at CERN), the SNSF can provide funding for experiments at CERN (Division Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences).
