SNSF maintains a close relationship with national research funding organisations around the world. SNSF also collaborates with the swissnex offices and Swiss science counsellors in order to increase synergies and facilitate contacts between research systems. SNSF is also an active partner in the Swiss government’s bilateral programme with priority countries (Leading House initiative).
SNSF aims at increasing and facilitating international scientific collaboration. Among others it specifically focuses on developing and transition countries. SNSF is notably a member and donor of the International Foundation for Science (IFS).

- International Short Visits:
A programme offering opportunities for both incoming and outgoing scientific visits worldwide
- International Exploratory Workshops:
A programme that allows researchers working in Switzerland to organise workshops with partners from abroad.
