The SNSF maintains a close relationship with national research funding organisations around the world. It also collaborates with the swissnex offices and Swiss science counsellors in order to increase synergies and facilitate contacts between research systems. It is also an active partner in the Swiss government’s bilateral programme with priority countries (Leading House initiative).

The SNSF aims to increase and facilitate international scientific collaboration, focusing specifically on developing and transition countries. It is also a member and donor of the International Foundation for Science (IFS).

The SNSF offers the following funding opportunities for international collaboration:

  • Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d.ch programme)
    Programme for research on global issues in and with developing and emerging countries
  • Research Partnerships with Developing Countries:
    A programme for research collaborations with developing countries
  • Bilateral Programmes with BRICS-Countrys
  • International Short Visits:
    A programme offering opportunities for both incoming and outgoing scientific visits worldwide
  • International Exploratory Workshops:
    A programme that allows researchers working in Switzerland to organise workshops with partners from abroad.
