The primary goal of the National Research Programme "Relations between Switzerland and South Africa" (NRP 42+) was to develop a scholarly basis for assessing Switzerland's South Africa policy with a small number of closely coordinated research projects. Economic, legal, political, and historic issues have seen given special consideration in the multidisciplinary- oriented projects. These maintained maintain critical distance from the political discussion in analysing the Swiss relationship to South Africa within an international context and strove for a policy contribution based on sources.
