Research plan
The research plan must be compiled in accordance with the specified requirements. Its length
must not exceed 20 pages and 80,000 characters, and should be uploaded to the corresponding document container on mySNF as a PDF (with editing protection disabled).
Requirements for the research plan
The following two documents must be prepared for
each applicant and uploaded to mySNF as a PDF (with editing protection disabled):
-
CV, including the most important scientific achievements
-
List of research results for the past five years
In 2014, the SNSF signed the
San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which recommends funding bodies to be explicit about the criteria used in evaluating the scientific productivity of applicants, thereby taking account of the scientific quality, value and impact of
their entire research output in addition to their publications.
Within the scope of this evaluation, the scientific discipline, academic age and personal situation (e.g. career breaks, care duties) of the applicants will be considered.
DORA declaration
For this evaluation it asks all applicants to provide a
standardised set of documentation containing their
CV, including their major scientific achievements and a list of their
research results. These documents are available for review by internal as well as external experts. They therefore have to be structured in accordance with the
criteria cited below regarding the CV and list of research results, and must contain all relevant information.
Proposals that lack the relevant information will not be considered for evaluation.
Requirements regarding CV and list of research results
CV, including major scientific achievements
(in one document, maximum length, 2+2 pages)
The applicant’s CV (maximum 2 pages) and list of major scientific achievements (maximum 2 pages) are used for assessing the following criteria:
- Fulfilment of personal requirements for applying for project funding
-
Scientific qualification of applicant, based on past achievements
- Ability of applicant to conduct original research of high scientific quality
under her/his own responsibility.
List of research results
(past five years)
In the selection process, the list of research results is used as the basis for evaluating an applicant’s
scientific productivity and
qualifications in the context of the proposed project, and for assessing his/her
ability to successfully carry out and document a research project. Both aspects are also taken into account for the assessment of the
feasibility of the proposed research project.
Depending on the field of research, a deduction may be made from the position of the applicant in the list of authors regarding his/her contribution to a scientific publication (cf.:
Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences – Scientific Integrity – Principles and Rules of Procedure). Alongside other aspects, the number of publications by an applicant as responsible author, without any contribution from his/her PhD or postdoc supervisor, is considered as an indicator for his/her
scientific independence.
In addition to publications, the list of research results should also include
other research outcomes such as patents, contributions to conferences, PR activities, etc.
The list of research results is limited to the
past five years. On the first page it must include a link to a website that contains a
complete list of publications by the applicant.
