Knowledge and Technology Transfer has become stronger during the 12 years of NCCR research. During the second phase, the nanoscience activities were greatly expanded by introducing a new module on applied science projects that included industrial partners. This was initiated by the Canton Aargau who recognized the potential of nanoscience and nanotechnology as a key branch for Northwestern Switzerland. The so-called Argovia focusses on pre-competitive R&D, building a main pillar of the successful value-added chain in Northwestern Switzerland. From the creation of the program until the end of the NCCR, the number of projects has continuously increased.
