How can I submit an application in response to a call for NCCRs? What information and documents must I provide? What requirements do I have to meet? The following document answers these and other relevant questions to assist applicants in writing and submitting their pre-proposals and proposals on time.
The information on NCCR pre-proposals and proposals is based on requirements issued by the Confederation:
The information provided here is not legally binding and does not in any circumstances substitute the mentioned guidelines or the relevant call document.
All pre-proposals and proposals must be submitted via the mySNF platform. If the applicants do not have a user account, they can ask for one on the same site; the login information will subsequently be sent to them by post. To guarantee access in good time, new user accounts must be requested no later than five working days before the relevant submission deadline. Your mySNF access will remain in place for future submissions or for the lifetime management of approved projects.
On mySNF, help texts offer basic advice on entering data online and on completing individual data containers.
The SNSF periodically launches new NCCR calls on behalf of the Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER). The SNSF informs the Swiss higher education institutions and the other research institutions at an early stage about the opening of a new call and the timeframe and deadlines for submission. The call for a new series of NCCRs is sent directly to the higher education institutions and research institutions and published on the SNSF website.
The submission and evaluation procedure for NCCRs is conducted in two stages: pre-proposals are submitted and evaluated first, then full proposals. They must be written in English as they will be evaluated by foreign experts.
The pre-proposals and proposals must meet the requirements of the SNSF and must be submitted on time via the mySNF platform. More detailed specifications of the content and format of the pre-proposals and proposals are given there.
The pre-proposals must be compiled in line with the table of contents specified in the relevant call and the corresponding additional information. The structure of the pre-proposals is as follows (indication of page numbers is based on previous calls):
The letter of support from the home institution must provide information on the conformity of the NCCR with the strategic planning of the home institution and on the intended structural measures. As an annex it should contain the NCCR form “Structural Measures and Self-funding by the Home Institution” providing details about the financial support and an overview of the structural measures.
By comparison with pre-proposals, proposals are distinguished by a greater degree of detail. The content is structured as follows (indication of page numbers is based on previous calls):
A further letter of support from each home institution must be submitted at this stage; the content of the letter must have been updated since the pre-proposal stage.
