At the Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen (FWO), the Weave process has been assigned to the "Junior and Senior Research projects" programme.

You can submit projects in collaboration with researchers from the following universities:

  • KU Leuven
  • University of Gent
  • Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)
  • University of Antwerp
  • Hasselt University
  • Evangelical Protestant Faculty in Leuven
  • Faculty for Protestant Theology in Brussels
  • Maritime Academy
  • Vlerick Business School
  • Antwerp Management School
  • Institute of Tropical Medicine, perhaps in collaboration with a Flemish or federal scientific institution and/or a Flemish higher education institution.

Weave proposals are part of the SNSF's project funding scheme. Applicants may have a maximum of two simultaneous project funding grants. One of these must be a Weave/Lead Agency/International Co-Investigator Scheme project. In addition, the topics of the two projects must be clearly distinct from one another.

The duration of the projects is the same in both countries and must not exceed 48 months.

The next deadline for submissions to the FWO is the 1st of April 2026.

If the application is submitted to the FWO, a copy must be submitted to the SNSF via mySNF within seven days.

The FWO stipulates that Belgian researchers whose project was approved start research in January the following year. Even though Swiss researchers have 12 months to start their projects once the funding decision is made, the SNSF recommends that they liaise with their research partners and coordinate their start phase.

Due to the start of the project in January of the following year after approval, submissions to the SNSF or FWO are only possible in April.
