c) What special conditions apply to publication grants for doctoral theses and habilitations?

  • Publication grants for doctoral theses and habilitations may only be requested if the applicants submitted their doctoral theses or habilitation at a Swiss university or if they meet the general requirements set out in Article 10 of the Funding Regulations when submitting their application to the SNSF.
  • Publication grants for doctoral theses may be awarded if the doctoral theses obtained one of the two highest grades awarded by the higher education institution. Both reviews by the higher education institution (e.g. the jury's report) must be submitted along with the application. If the reviews include critical comments, the applicant must explain how he/she has revised the work with a view to its publication.
  • The SNSF awards a lump sum of CHF 8,000 for doctoral theses and habilitations. For this reason, only the publisher agreement needs to be submitted, but not the publisher's calculation.
