Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships: option to integrate a return to Switzerland as of 2014

In order to boost the promotion of young scientists in Switzerland, the SNSF has decided to introduce a "return grant" for Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships as of 2014. This measure allows researchers to plan a return phase at a Swiss research institution in principle already when filing their fellowship application.

Returning to Switzerland after a stay abroad can be a challenging situation for researchers. This is felt most acutely by holders of Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships. They are already at an advanced stage in their careers and often have family commitments. To address this issue and further enhance the promotion of young scientists in Switzerland, the SNSF has decided to introduce a "return grant" for Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships as of 2014.

Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships are open to all disciplines funded by the SNSF; in its new configuration, the funding scheme will allow researchers to spend a research stay abroad as postdocs for a duration of 12 to 36 months (fellowship). Moreover, in principle when filing their fellowship application, they will have the option to request a return phase of 3 to 12 months (salary and social security contributions) at a Swiss research institution. The conditions and other details concerning "return grants" are set out in the regulations on Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships, which were recently amended by the SNSF.

The next call for proposals for the Advanced Postdoc.Mobility scheme is planned for 1 November 2013 with the submission deadline on 1 February 2014.
