Whereas
the total number of applications remained stable, the requested funding
increased by 5.5% compared to the previous year. However, the figures differ depending
on the science area: in the humanities and social sciences, both the number of
applications and the requested funding decreased slightly (-6% and -2%). In
biology and medicine, the number of applications remained stable while the
requested funding rose by 9%. And in mathematics and the natural and
engineering sciences, both the number of applications and the requested total
amount increased (+8% and +7%).
Despite
the slight increase in the requested funds, the demand for project funding
remains largely unchanged, after rising continually between 2007 and 2011.
The SNSF
will evaluate the submitted proposals in the coming months and make the
corresponding funding decisions by the end of September 2014.
