Doc.CH in the humanities and social sciences: the SNSF awards 25 grants
Within the scope of the fourth call for proposals, 25 young researchers were chosen in February by the SNSF as beneficiaries of a Doc.CH grant, a funding scheme aimed at researchers who wish to write a doctoral thesis in the humanities and social sciences.
The SNSF increased its support for doctoral students by initiating Doc.CH in 2013. This scheme allows promising researchers to request a grant in order to write a doctoral thesis on a subject of their own choice in the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland.
By 10 September 2014, date of the fourth submission deadline for Doc.CH, 61 applications had been submitted (humanities: 32; social sciences: 29). The Research Commissions of the SNSF recommended 36 candidates for the second phase. These candidates were invited to present their project during an interview at the SNSF.
In February 2015, the SNSF awarded 25 grants (12 in the humanities and 13 in the social sciences). The grantees will work at nine Swiss universities. The distribution according to gender is as follows: 72% women and 28% men. The average duration of the awarded grants is 36 months (Doc.CH grants can last for 2 to 4 years).
The next submission deadline is 10 March 2015.
