precoR – Funding precompetitive research: 24 applications received

The SNSF has received 24 applications in response to the second call for proposals for precoR. The initiative finances basic science projects aimed at commercial application which are not yet sufficiently advanced to be strategically (co-)managed by industry partners.

The funding offer for projects in the transition phase between basic research and plannable product development has again met with a very positive response. By mid-February, 24 applications were submitted by applicants from ten institutions in response to the current call, which is limited to materials science and fabrication technology. The applicants have requested a total amount of CHF 10.5 million, whereas the total budget available to the SNSF is CHF 2 million.

The proposals will be evaluated by the SNSF in the coming months in collaboration with the CTI and representatives of industry. The SNSF will make the relevant funding decisions by the end of July 2015 and inform the applicants as soon as possible thereafter.
