Doc.CH in the humanities and social sciences: the SNSF awards 22 grants
Twenty-two young researchers were chosen in July by the SNSF as beneficiaries of a Doc.CH grant, a funding scheme aimed at researchers who wish to write a doctoral thesis in the humanities and social sciences.
The SNSF increased its support for doctoral students by initiating Doc.CH in 2013. This scheme allows promising researchers to request a grant in order to write a doctoral thesis on a subject of their own choice in the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland.
By 10 March 2015, date of the fifth submission deadline for Doc.CH, 81 applications had been submitted (humanities: 49; social sciences: 32). The Research Commissions of the SNSF recommended 39 candidates for the second phase. These candidates were invited to present their project during an interview at the SNSF.
In July 2015, the SNSF awarded 22 grants (16 in the humanities and 6 in the social sciences). The grantees will work at seven Swiss universities. The distribution according to gender is as follows: 45% women and 55% men. The average duration of the awarded grants is 38 months (Doc.CH grants can last for 2 to 4 years).
The next submission deadline is 10 September 2015.
