Scientific and Technological Cooperation Programme between Switzerland and the State of Rio de Janeiro (STCPSRJ): 12 projects selected

23 applications were submitted by mid-June 2015 for the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Programme between Switzerland and the State of Rio de Janeiro (STCPSRJ). 12 will be funded.

The SNSF and its partner organisation in the federal state of Rio de Janeiro, the Fundação Carlos Chagas Filho de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), were requested to collaborate on a call for Joint Research Projects (JRPs) by the State Secretariat for Research, Education and Innovation (SERI). The JRPs enable researchers in Switzerland and in Rio de Janeiro to engage in collaborative research. Most of the projects will run for three years and the grants will cover similar costs as those incurred in national SNSF projects (research funds, salaries, etc.).

Joint evaluation

The 23 submitted applications were jointly evaluated by the SNSF and the FAPERJ. Both organisations nominated international experts as members of the evaluation panel. All in all, the partner organisations approved 12 projects, which are distributed as follows across the subject areas of the call:

  • Neglected diseases: 9
  • Chemistry, with a focus on clean technologies or nanotechnology: 1
  • Urban development: 2

The SNSF will finance the Swiss part of the research with a budget of CHF 2.97 million, and the FAPERJ the research conducted in the federal state of Rio de Janeiro.
