FLARE - Funding LArge international REsearch projects

The SNSF launches the first call for proposals of the FLARE funding scheme for the 2017-2020 period.

Based on a mandate from the SERI, the funding scheme FLARE (Funding LArge international REsearch projects) aims to facilitate the construction and use of research infrastructures for major international projects in particle physics, astrophysics and astroparticle physics. At least two calls are planned during the 2017-2020 period. In the first call for proposals, applications can be submitted until 15 November 2016 for the funding period starting 1 April 2017.

Compared to the previous period, a number of modifications have been made in order to better adapt the programme to the needs of researchers and simplify the evaluation procedure. For instance, the duration of grants has been extended to four years and the costs covered by the grant have been defined more clearly. The evaluation process has also been reviewed. It now includes a presentation by the applicants before an international panel. In addition, applicants who wish to participate in a new infrastrcuture no longer need to submit a letter of intent one year before submitting the FLARE application.
