From democracy to genomics: portraits of young researchers in Eastern Europe

The genomic analysis of fish, new chemistry concepts, and questions about democracy in Europe - the SNSF presents the PROMYS grantees from Eastern Europe and their projects.

The initiative "Promotion of Young Scientists in Eastern Europe" (PROMYS) supports young researchers in Eastern Europe who have studied or worked in Switzerland for at least two years and would like to continue their careers in a new Eastern European member state of the EU.

Investing in scientific collaboration

Awarded a total of 4.3 million Swiss francs by the SNSF, the seven PROMYS projects will investigate a wide range of topics - from fishes as a model for genomic analyses to new concepts in chemistry, or from academic writing cultures to democracy at the margins of Europe. PROMYS is an investment in scientific cooperation with promising researchers in Eastern Europe who will collaborate with researchers in Switzerland in the long term.
