Longitudinal studies: extension of funding period

Submission deadline

28/06/2017

The SNSF is launching a call for proposals to continue its support for ongoing longitudinal studies.

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) supports longitudinal studies (cohorts) that allow researchers to collect and evaluate data on specific groups of people or medical indications. These studies generally include patients from various hospitals or specific segments of the population, and they bring together research groups comprising scientists from different research institutions. Nine studies are currently ongoing.

For the 2017-2020 period, the SNSF has at its disposal a budget of approximately 10 million Swiss francs per year for longitudinal studies. As this budget is lower than the total budget allocated to the ongoing studies, the SNSF has decided to extend the existing projects for which a large number of patients have already been recruited and opted for a closed call in 2017. The consortia involved in these studies are invited to submit a follow-up application by 28 June 2017.

The evaluation will be conducted by an international panel of experts and supervised by the National Research Council. The final decision will be communicated in November, with the earliest start date being 1 January 2018. The extended funding period will end on 31 December 2020.
