Argentinian-Swiss Joint Research Programme: 10 projects approved

10 of the 80 projects proposed in October 2016 for the Argentinian-Swiss Joint Research Programme (ASJRP) will be funded for a period of three years.

Within the scope of a pilot project for bilateral programmes conducted by the Swiss government, the SNSF launched in October 2016 a call for proposals for Joint Research Projects (JRPs) in collaboration with the "Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Técnicas" (CONICET) and the "Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Productiva" (MINCyT). Researchers from all academic disciplines were eligible to submit proposals. Under the bilateral programme, Swiss researchers and Argentinian researchers will be able to conduct joint projects. The project grants are generally awarded for a period of three years and, in Switzerland, the eligible costs are similar to those funded under SNSF national projects (research funds, salaries, etc.).

Joint evaluation

The SNSF and CONICET were jointly responsible for the evaluation of the 80 submitted project proposals. A panel of international experts appointed by the two funding agencies evaluated the applications and selected 10 projects for funding. With 1 project in the humanities and social sciences, 5 in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering and 4 in biology and medicine, all areas of science are represented.

The SNSF has earmarked 2.5 million francs for the research to be conducted in Switzerland, with all approved projects receiving approximately the same amount; on the Argentinian side, CONICET and MINCyT will cover the costs of research and collaboration.
