Funding of positions for doctoral students: more options for UAS/UTE

The SNSF has amended its regulations on positions for doctoral students abroad for universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education. From now on, it will approve such positions at universities abroad in disciplines for which the UAS or UTE does not have a partner at university level in Switzerland.

Until now, this option was only open to Swiss art academies. Annex 12 of the General implementation regulations for the Funding Regulations was amended accordingly at the beginning of August.

The SNSF generally finances positions for doctoral students at a UAS or UTE if there is a proven, well-documented scientific working relationship with a university in Switzerland. In principle, the SNSF does not finance positions for doctoral students at universities abroad, except in the cases mentioned above. In any case, doctoral students must be employed at an institution in Switzerland (or an institution abroad that is governed by Swiss law).
