International collaboration: 13 new COST projects

The SNSF is supporting 13 cross-border projects taking part in the European COST programme with a total amount of 3.9 million Swiss francs.

The COST programme promotes research collaboration across Europe. It creates networks - so-called COST Actions - involving research projects funded at national level by at least seven participating countries. For this purpose, COST provides funding for conferences, meetings, workshops, courses and publications.

The SNSF launched a COST call in 2017 and evaluated 24 projects submitted by researchers based in Switzerland. The Research Council has now approved 13 projects, which will be awarded funding of 3.9 million Swiss francs in total. This corresponds to 56% of the requested funds.

The funded projects will be completed in the next four years. They cover a wide range of disciplines, from space research and medicine to research on migration. By participating in a COST Action, the mostly young researchers can do collaborative research and build up an international network.
