SNSF Scientific Image Competition at Zurich Film Festival and Foire du Valais

Two exhibitions at the Zurich Film Festival and the Foire du Valais in Martigny will present outstanding images of Swiss research.

Photographs from the 2018 SNSF Scientific Image Competition will be presented as part of two exhibitions at Zurich and Martigny, in the canton of Valais. Both events are based on the exhibition presented at the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography in May 2018.

The “Seeing Science” exhibition will show the winning images as well as a selection of large-format prints as part of the official programme of the Zurich Film Festival. Organised by the Eye on Science association, this exhibition will also present other visual science projects, such as a virtual reality exploration of the human body and videos from the European Fast Forward Science competition. The exhibition will open on 29 September 2018 at 6 p.m. and will close on 5 October 2018.

The Foire du Valais in Martigny will be presenting images from the competition as part of the Journée de la culture on 3 October 2018. This event celebrates the links between art and science. Participants will include Pascal Hufschmid of the Musée de l’Elysée, who also chairs the SNSF Scientific Image Competition jury; Monica Bello, head of Arts@CERN; and Nicolas Henchoz, director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab.

More than 350 entries were submitted to SNSF’s 2018 Scientific Image Competition. An international jury selected one winner and awarded two distinctions in each of four categories. The prizes were presented on 9 May 2018 at the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, which also exhibited the images.
