SNSF Research Council: nine new members elected

The Executive Committee of the SNSF Foundation Council has elected nine new research councillors.

The National Research Council is responsible for evaluating research proposals and making funding decisions. It is composed of up to 100 members at any one time, all of whom are leading researchers in their field. The new members are:

Mathematics, Natural and Engineering Sciences division

  • Jeffrey Bode, ETH Zurich, for chemistry (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
  • Dominique Derome, Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology EMPA, for engineering sciences (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
  • Frédéric Merkt, ETH Zurich, for physical chemistry (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
  • Daniela Rubatto, University of Bern, for earth sciences (takes up office on 1 October 2019)
  • Donna Testerman, EPF Lausanne, for mathematics (takes up office on 1 October 2019)

They replace the outgoing members Eva Bayer-Flückiger (mathematics), Christoph Heinrich (earth sciences), Christian Bernhard (physics), Marcel Mayor (chemistry) and Samuel Leutwyler (physical chemistry).

Programmes division

  • Dominik Brühwiler, Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW, for chemistry (takes up office on 1 January 2020)
  • Denis Jabaudon, University of Geneva, for biology/life sciences (takes up office on 1 January 2019)
  • Bert Müller, University of Basel, for physics (takes up office on 1 May 2019)
  • Dimos Poulikakos, ETH Zurich, for engineering sciences (takes up office on 1 January 2019)

They replace the outgoing members Katharina Fromm (chemistry), Isabelle Mansuy (biology), Philipp Rudolf von Rohr (engineering sciences) and Frank Scheffold (physics).
