20/Feb/2019

The SNSF awards Doc.CH grants to twenty-two young researchers who wish to write a doctoral thesis in the humanities and social sciences. They receive an average of 217,000 francs per grant.

The SNSF increased its support for doctoral students by initiating Doc.CH in 2013. This scheme allows promising researchers to request a grant in order to write a doctoral thesis.

By 10 September 2018, date of the twelfth submission deadline for Doc.CH, 72 applications had been submitted (humanities: 47 social sciences: 25). The Research Commissions of the SNSF recommended 35 candidates for the second phase. These candidates were invited to present their project during an interview.

In January 2019, the SNSF awarded 22 grants (15 in the humanities and 7 in the social sciences). The grantees will work at seven Swiss universities. 55% of the grantees are women and 45% men. They will receive an average of 217,000 francs per project to cover the project costs and their own salary. The average duration of the grants is 42 months (Doc.CH grants can last for 2 to 4 years).

The next submission deadline for Doc.CH grants is 10 March 2019.
