Practice-to-Science, or moving from the practical to the academic sphere

04/Nov/2019

The SNSF is launching a new career funding scheme that allows proven experts to return to academia as professors at selected universities.

Under a one-year pilot project, the SNSF is launching a call for Practice-to-Science grants aimed at promoting competition in use-inspired research fields.

The Practice-to-Science grants (PtS) are aimed at qualified experts who have a proven track record in the practical realm and wish to return to an academic environment at universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education as assistant professors. These are temporary positions offering the opportunity of obtaining higher qualifications or of converting to a permanent position.

PtS grants are awarded in all disciplines taught at universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education in Switzerland. They consist of flat-rate amounts of 200,000 Swiss francs per year for a maximum duration of three years. They cover a share of the grantee's salary up to a maximum work-time percentage of 50% (0.5 FTE), and/or project funds.

First call in January 2020

The call for PtS grants will be launched in mid-January 2020, the submission deadline being 15 July 2020. The regulations setting out detailed participation requirements, the guidelines for the submission of proposals and all relevant information are available on the SNSF website.
