Research magazine Horizons: Living in a toxic world

05/Dec/2019

The dose makes the poison. Really? Isn't it rather the legal limit that defines toxicity? Read all about chemicals, their use and how we have become suspicious of them.

It is often rather tricky to define at what point a chemical becomes toxic. Even if hundreds of scientific studies have investigated its effects. The latest Horizons bravely opens the poison cabinet and examines the history of artificial substances as well as the relevant legislation.

The second key topic introduces a species that is allegedly very rare in research: career changers. Five women and men remember their previous occupation and shed light on decision to become scientists.

Other highlights include: what is left of dark matter, who is part of the youth climate movement and how small robots find their way into the animal kingdom.

The current issue of Horizons is - as always - as diverse as research itself. And accessible to everyone!
