More than 100 applications in response to the first Practice-to-Science call

05/Aug/2020

The new Practice-to-Science funding scheme has attracted great interest among experts who wish to return to academia at universities of applied science or universities of teacher education.

Under a pilot project, the SNSF launched a call for Practice-to-Science grants aimed at promoting competition in use-inspired research fields.

The grants are aimed at qualified experts who have a proven track record in the practical realm and wish to return to an academic environment at universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education as assistant professors. These are temporary positions offering the opportunity of obtaining higher qualifications or of converting to a permanent position. "With 104 submitted proposals, our expectations have been exceeded," says Marcel Kullin, head of the Careers division.

Next steps

As in other Career funding schemes, the applications will now be evaluated in a two-stage procedure. The results will be communicated towards the end of December and projects will get under way as of 1 January 2021.
