European Joint Programme Rare Diseases – for the humanities and social sciences

Submission deadline

16/Feb/2021

The European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases is launching a new call for research projects in the humanities and social sciences. Interested researchers will be able to submit their pre-proposals until February.

Rare diseases can cause far-reaching changes in all areas of life. Besides physical symptoms, patients also have to bear the psychological, social and economic consequences of the disease. These topics are covered in this year's call of the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP-RD).

The SNSF is participating in the Joint Transnational Call 2021 on Rare Diseases. The programme aims to coordinate research efforts in the area of rare diseases among European and non-European countries. The 2021 call focuses on research in the social sciences and humanities that aims to improve the implementation of health care provisions and the everyday life of people who suffer from such a disease.

Participation requirements

Scientists in different countries will be expected to build an effective collaboration on a common interdisciplinary research project. All partners in a consortium are supported by the research funding organisations of their respective countries or regions. Applicants from Switzerland must be eligible for SNSF project funding. If they do not already have a project funding grant, they are asked to contact the Administrative Offices of the SNSF to verify their eligibility. The proposals (pre-proposal and full proposal) have to be submitted to the EJP-RD and the mySNF platform (please select "ERA-NET + EJP: Pre-proposal" for pre-proposals). Further information for applicants based in Switzerland will be available in the country-specific guidelines included in the call document.

Detailed information

Information on included and excluded topics as well as a consortium's composition can be found on the EJP-RD website. The call is scheduled to open at the beginning of December. The submission deadline for pre-proposals is on 16 February 2021, the deadline for full proposals (by invitation only) on 15 June 2021. There will be a two-stage submission procedure. The pre-proposals and fullproposals will be assessed by an international evaluation panel.
