Funded research creates knowledge for innovation in business and society
First preliminary figures: In 2024, the SNSF invested 960 million francs in new projects, fellowships and publications as part of its regular funding schemes. A further 189 million francs were allocated to transitional measures.
Research funded by the SNSF is of great importance to the Swiss economy and society. Thousands of projects at universities and other institutions create knowledge that enables progress. Ultimately, all residents of Switzerland benefit from this.
In 2024, we awarded more than one billion francs to the best new projects through rigorous selection procedures. Of this, 684 million francs were awarded to project funding, the SNSF’s largest funding category, which enables established researchers to pursue their own ideas. Furthermore, we approved 136 million francs for early-career researchers and 105 million francs for research groups within programmes.
