SNSF-ISF applications are part of the project funding scheme at the SNSF. In project funding, The Israel Science Foundation (ISF) offers the Personal Research Grants (PRG) funding scheme under the Lead Agency procedure.

SNSF-ISF applications are part of the project funding scheme at the SNSF. In project funding, SNSF applicants can have a maximum of three ongoing funding schemes in parallel, provided at least one of them is a Lead Agency, Weave, Co-Investigator or European consortium project. Israeli applicants can only submit one application per submission date.

The duration of the projects is the same in both countries and must not exceed 48 months.

The applications must be submitted in English.

Application submission: The SNSF and the ISF have agreed to take turns as the Lead Agency on a yearly basis. The next submission will be to the ISF in November 2024. If the application is submitted to the NSF a copy must be submitted to the ISF via mySNF within seven days.

In principle, all scientific institutions in Israel are eligible to apply. Institutions in those territories that became part of the State of Israel after 5 June 1967 are excluded. The SNSF regulations in this regard are the same as those that apply to research cooperation between the European Union and Israel.

The ISF requires the Israeli researchers to start the approved project by the following October after the funding decision. Swiss researchers have twelve months to start the project after receiving the funding decision. However, the SNSF recommends coordinating the start-up phase with the research partners involved.
