New figures: 55% of publications from 2018 and 2019 are open access

In some disciplines nearly all publications based on SNSF-funded research are in open access mode, in others still only a few. Overall, the share of open access publications is growing slowly but steadily.

The results of research funded by the SNSF need to be freely accessible. Open access (OA) means that scientific publications are available to all interested parties via the internet free of charge. The SNSF supports this principle by covering the publication costs. It communicates the importance of OA publishing to both researchers and the public. It also continually collects data on the OA status of publications resulting from SNSF funding.
