Horizons: The democratic experiment

Democracy is an ideal, but it is also practised in many different ways. What it is at its core, where its limits lie and where it can still be reimagined.
Democracy – with all its decision-making processes and laws – is complicated. And challenging. The current issue of Horizons features an interview with philosopher Francis Cheneval on why it is important that everyone can have their say. It also shows how research is looking at new forms of participation. And it engages with those parts of the population that are normally left out. At the end, there is even a plea against technocracy.
Other highlights include a researcher who participates in spiritual dances, the insatiable energy guzzler that is AI and some clarity on the opaque costs of scientific publications.
The current issue of Horizons is as diverse as the research itself – and, as always, freely accessible to all.
