Who will win the 100th Marcel Benoist Swiss Science Prize? Send nominations now
Every year since 1920, the Marcel Benoist Foundation has awarded the Swiss Science Prize. On its hundredth anniversary, the CHF 250,000 prize will be awarded in the field of biology and medicine. Nominations can be submitted from now until 27 March.
The Marcel Benoist Swiss Science Prize is Switzerland’s most prestigious research prize. It honours scientists whose work is outstanding not only in terms of quality, innovation and originality, but also in terms of its usefulness and relevance to human life. Eleven winners have gone on to win the Nobel Prize, the most recent being Professor Michel Mayor of the University of Geneva in 2019.
Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Chairman of the Marcel Benoist Foundation, is looking forward to the awards ceremony in the anniversary year: “One hundred years after the very first prize was given to the immunologist Maurice Arthus, we will also be awarding the Marcel Benoist Swiss Science Prize to a scientist in the field of biology and medicine this year. Since Swiss research in this field is among the best in the world, I hope we receive many outstanding nominations.”
The Foundation will announce the winner of the Marcel Benoist Swiss Science Prize in September. The prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Bern on 4 November.
Submit your nomination between now and 27 March
Once again this year, the Board of Trustees of the Marcel Benoist Foundation has given the SNSF the task of evaluating all the nominees and selecting the winner.
The nomination procedure is open to the entire Swiss research community. Researchers, leading members of research institutions and representatives of other public or private institutions may submit their proposals by 27 March. Potential award winners are researchers who live in Switzerland and work at least 50% at a Swiss research institution. The majority of the relevant research work must have been carried out while working in Switzerland.
