Research magazine Horizons: emotions are everywhere - even in science
Emotions are in the focus of disciplines ranging from history and artificial intelligence to biology. The new Horizons places them in the spotlight of scientific analysis.
The new issue of Horizons is surprisingly emotional. For example, when researchers relate how their own projects have brought tears to their eyes or given them moments of bliss. But we also look at emotions in a more mater-of-fact way: where in the brain are they located? What is their role in dealing with artificial intelligence? And are they really universal?
In our second main story, Horizons focuses on the ecological footprint of research. Should scientists fly less because of climate change?
Doctoral student Bastian Bergfeld of the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF in Davos tells us about his field trips to the slopes above Davos.
