The 2022 SNSF Scientific Image Competition is underway

The SNSF is once again holding its scientific photo and video competition. The deadline for submitting entries is 31 January 2022.

The latest edition of the SNSF Scientific Image Competition is now open for submissions. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) invites researchers working at a university or research institution in Switzerland or Liechtenstein to submit photographs and videos. The works must have been created after 1 January 2021. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2022. The winning images will be exhibited at the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography from 6 to 29 May 2022.

The aim of the competition is to offer a fresh look at science and how it is done. More than 2000 images have been submitted to the competition since its launch in 2017. They are made available to the media, academic institutions and the general public in an online gallery.

The four categories of the competition

Lars Lindemann, director of photography at GEO magazine (Hamburg), will chair the competition jury. A first prize of 1000 francs and several distinctions of 250 francs will be awarded in each of the four categories of the competition:

  • object of study
  • research locations and instruments
  • women and men of science
  • short videos.
