Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT)

For the fourth time, the SNSF is launching a call for independent, clinical studies.

The SNSF’s special programme for Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials (IICT) provides targeted support for independent clinical studies on topics that have not been identified as a high priority by the industry and are therefore insufficiently researched. The call is limited to prospective, randomised, controlled, interventional, multicentric studies.

The submission deadline for applications is 1 November 2018. Letters of intent must reach to the SNSF by 3 September 2018. The SNSF recommends that applicants consult specialists at Clinical Trial Units or similar institutions when preparing the study protocols.

New for 2018: the SNSF requires that the public and/or patients be involved in the design of the study. This is to improve the quality of the research and to ensure that the results are relevant to those affected by the diseases studied.

The budget for the IICT call 2018 is 10 million Swiss francs, which should be sufficient to fund at least four clinical studies. The SNSF currently plans to issue further annual calls up to and including 2020.
