Swiss researcher coordinates a project selected for funding by JPND

A project coordinated by a Swiss researcher has been selected for funding in the context of the 2017 Call of the Joint Programme on Neurodegenerative Diseases (JPND) for "Multinational research projects for pathway analysis across neurodegenerative diseases".

At the end of a highly competitive selection process, ten out of 48 submitted consortia proposals were selected for funding. Among the funded projects is'EpiAD: Effect of early and adult-life stress on the brain epigenome: relevance for the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease and diabetes-related dementia', coordinated by the Swiss scientist Johannes Gräff of the Brain Mind Institute at the EPFL.

The project involves the collaboration of three other European research groups, based in Germany, Spain and Poland. The aim of the project is to investigate prenatal stress as a possible predisposition factor for the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus-associated dementia. The project will be financially supported by the SNSF in the coming years.

The EU Joint Programme - Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) aims to increase coordinated investment between participating countries in research aimed at finding causes, developing cures and identifying appropriate ways to care for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases. The annual call for proposals launched in 2017 accepted applications for multinational and multidisciplinary collaborative research projects that propose network analyses across neurodegenerative diseases in order to further explore the common underlying mechanisms involved.
