Belgium (Wallonia-Brussels Federation)

At the Fonds de la recherche scientifique (F.R.S.-FNRS), the Weave process is available for the funding scheme Projet de recherches (PDR).

Eligible researchers from the following universities can submit projects according to the Weave process:

  • Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain)
  • Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)
  • Université de Liège (ULiège)
  • Université de Mons (UMons)
  • Université de Namur (UNamur)
  • Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles (USL-B)

SNSF-F.R.S.-FNRS applications are allocated to the project funding scheme at the SNSF. In this scheme, applicants can have a maximum of two ongoing grants at the same time, provided they clearly address different topics.

In both countries the maximum project duration is 48 months.

The next deadline for submissions to the F.R.S.-FNRS is 7 July 2022.

The F.R.S.-FNRS stipulates that Belgian researchers whose project was approved start research in January the following year. Even though Swiss researchers have 12 months to start their projects once the funding decision is made, the SNSF recommends that they liaise with their research partners and coordinate their start phase.

If you are planning to submit your Lead Agency proposal in a language other than English (only possible in certain disciplines of the humanities and social sciences), you will need to discuss this with all of the involved agencies in advance.
