The national MD-PhD programme will be continued

The SAMS and the SNSF have revised the Regulations for their joint MD-PhD programme.

The continuation of the national MD-PhD programme will improve grantees’ social security coverage. In the new Regulations, the fellowships for doctoral students are replaced by a salary, allowing them to benefit from a regular employment relationship with their host institution. In addition, the new Regulations standardise the selection of candidates by the local MD-PhD commissions. The special doctoral programmes for clinicians recently introduced at different faculties are also included, provided they meet the requirements of the national MD-PhD programme.

Another aim of the revision was to clarify the roles of the partner organisations responsible for the programme. The SAMS continues as programme leader, organiser and coordinater of the evaluation process, whereas the SNSF remains in charge of the administration of grants.
