Travel costs for researchers – three examples of what the SNSF covers

Example 1

A higher education institution stipulates that business trips involving up to eight hours of travel time must be made by train. The same rule also applies to travel undertaken as part of an SNSF-funded research project. If travelling by train results in additional costs, for example for accommodation or meals, these costs may be charged to the project budget.

Example 2

A higher education institution has no specific travel regulations, and its expense regulations only stipulate that the most economical travel option should be chosen. A researcher travels to Berlin as part of an SNSF-funded project. In accordance with the SNSF’s requirements, they should choose to travel by train. If additional costs arise as a result of travelling by train, these costs may be charged to the project budget.

Exemple 3

Une haute école autorise les vols en classe affaires sur les liaisons long-courriers ou en cas de problèmes de santé. Une chercheuse impute les frais liés à un vol en classe affaires dans le cadre d’un projet financé par le FNS.

Comme auparavant, le FNS ne peut prendre en charge ces coûts que dans des cas exceptionnels dûment justifiés. Le Grant Management examine la justification et demande, si nécessaire, des pièces justificatives ou des informations complémentaires. Les vols en première classe ne sont en aucun cas financés.
