QuantERA Call 2025
Since 2016, the QuantERA ERA-NET has supported research collaboration in Europe on quantum information and communication sciences and technologies (Q-ICST). This year, a new call for proposals is being launched.
In this year's call, the European funding scheme QuantERA (Research & Innovation Action in the field of Quantum Technologies) will promote the following two topics.
- Quantum Phenomena and Resources
- Applied Quantum Science
In both topics, funded projects should address one or more of the following areas: quantum communication, quantum simulation, quantum computation, quantum information sciences, quantum metrology.
Researchers can submit project proposals from 22 September until 5 December 2025. Applicants whose projects are approved will be informed by May 2026.
In the framework of QuantERA III, international consortia composed of researchers from at least three of the following 29 countries can submit applications: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Corea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom. To contribute to the expansion and dissemination of scientific excellence within the European Union, consortia are encouraged to include partners from the “widening countries” (in italics).
An international panel will scientifically evaluate the proposals. Each partner in a consortium is supported by a research funding agency from their own country or region. Applicants from Switzerland must be eligible for SNSF Project funding and are urged to contact us in advance if this is their first submission to the SNSF.
In parallel with the QuantERA application, you need to submit an administrative application to the SNSF via mySNF (under Programmes/ERA-NET).
In the last call for projects in 2023, QuantERA supported 24 projects, 4 of which included a partner in Switzerland.
Transnational research
QuantERA is a consortium consisting of more than 40 funding agencies from more than 30 countries in Europe and beyond. It was established in 2016 to support excellent multidisciplinary research on quantum technologies that might lead to technological breakthroughs in the long term. The QuantERA consortium itself is currently supported by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
