Water4All: call for proposals

The transnational initiative Water4All is launching a new call for projects to support research on water and health across Europe and beyond. Swiss-based researchers can participate.

The Water4All 2025 Joint Transnational Call focuses on addressing critical challenges related to water quality, contaminants and health – both human and environmental (One Health approach). Proposals on water treatment technologies must integrate health aspects and include risk mitigation measures.

The call topics are overlapping and non-exclusive. Proposals must address at least one of the following topics and may integrate multiple topics where relevant:

  • Waterborne contaminants and health risks: occurrence, behaviour, interactions and vulnerability.
  • Innovative tools and technologies for water quality and exposure monitoring
  • Water treatment and exposure mitigation
  • Governance, socio-economic innovation, and policy integration for water and health

Proposals should advance knowledge, develop innovative solutions and support decision-making for sustainable water management in relation to human health protection. Interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral approaches are encouraged, including collaboration between environmental scientists, engineers, health experts and policymakers.

Supported by the SNSF

An international panel will scientifically evaluate the pre-proposals and full proposals. All research partners in a consortium are supported by their own national or regional funding agency. Swiss-based researchers applying for financial support from the SNSF to participate in the call must meet the eligibility requirements for SNSF project funding. Along with the application to Water4All, they need to submit an administrative application to the SNSF by the same submission deadline. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the SNSF Administrative Offices in advance if this will be their first time submitting an application. Further specifications for participation are outlined in the list of national and regional regulations published on the call website.

The submission deadline for pre-proposals is 13 November 2025.
