In Geneva, the SNSF, together with the Member States of the Human Frontier Science Program Organisation (HFSPO), demonstrated its commitment to research excellence in the life sciences and to international cooperation.

On 7 July 2026, the Member States of the Human Frontier Science Program Organisation (HFSPO) met in Geneva.

As a member of the HFSPO, the SNSF is committed to promoting research excellence in the life sciences and actively strengthening international collaboration. Every three years, the HFSPO Member States reaffirm their shared commitment in a Joint Communiqué – an expression of their long-term partnership.

The official proceedings kicked off on 7 July with the Triennial Conference of HFSPO Members (TCHM), at which the Joint Communiqué was adopted. State Secretary Martina Hirayama opened the event.

The SNSF subsequently organised a Science Summit, chaired by Torsten Schwede, President of the SNSF Research Council.

Key insights for research and international cooperation

The Science Summit focused on the topic "Frontier Life Science as an Engine of Innovation" and brought together researchers from the life sciences, representatives from funding organisations and institutions as well as policy-makers. In addition to academic presentations and a panel discussion, the programme also included a policy panel. Participants gained insights into current developments and discussed selected issues.

The 25th HFSP Awardees Meeting is then taking place from 8 to 10 July. The event brings together researchers whose projects and careers have been shaped by funding from the HFSPO – a testament to the programme’s long-term impact on international research cooperation.
