Simplified procedure for joint projects between researchers in Israel and Switzerland

The SNSF has concluded a Lead Agency agreement with the Israel Science Foundation. Researchers in the two countries now only have to submit one grant application for joint projects. The first submission deadline is 2 October 2023.

In August 2022, the SNSF and the Israel Science Foundation (ISF) signed a memorandum of understanding. One year later, they have now concluded a Lead Agency agreement based on the MoU. It enables researchers in Switzerland and Israel to submit a joint application to one of the two funding organisations. The projects must have a joint research question and a joint research plan. The work in each country does not constitute an independent project and therefore cannot be carried out sepa-rately.

Part of project funding

The Lead Agency process is part of the SNSF's project funding scheme. There is no additional budget and the usual project funding requirements apply. Researchers may only submit a Lead Agency proposal if there are no thematic overlaps with other applications or with ongoing projects.

Submission by 2 October 2023.

The two funding agencies have agreed to take turns as lead agency on a yearly basis. In 2023 researchers can submit their applications to the SNSF by 2 October.

The SNSF already has Lead Agency agreements with Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland, the State of Sao Paulo, Slovenia, South Africa, the Province of South Tyrol, Sweden and the USA.
